On the morning of Oct. 22, the construction of China's first pure electric harbor tug was officially started in Lianyungang. After this harbor tug is put into use, the tug will be upgraded to be a high-quality, green and smart tug and will set a positive example for domestic ports to save energy and reduce emissions.
Designed by CSSC 708 Institute, the pure electric harbor tug has a total length of 36 meters, a width of 10 meters, a depth of 4.5 meters and a draft of 3.5 meters. The speed is not less than 13 knots and working time not less than 8 hours. Total power is designed to be 5000 kWh which can reach the effect of 4000 horsepower for conventional tug.

Safe, environmental friendly and zero emission
Main power system: CSSC 712 Institute provides overall power integration, using pp电子网站 Power’s LFP battery to replace the conventional diesel engine as the main propulsion unit. The whole tug is designed with multiple battery packs as backup for each other, which is equivalent to a conventional tug equipped with multiple diesel units that safety performance is highly guaranteed. The use of lithium battery as propulsion power solves oil pollution and carbon emissions problems from conventional diesel, greatly reduced engine room noise and achipp电子网站s zero emissions.
First try of fast charge technology
Charging mode and device: fast charging and slow charging are available. Fast charged in 2 hours while slow charged in 6-8 hours. The high-voltage shore power technology pioneered by Lianyungang Port can be used to realize fast charging.
Economic benefits and ecological benefits
According to current average utilization rate and fuel consumption of harbor tugs, the pure electric tugs can consume about 300 tons of energy pp电子网站ry year although its cost is higher than that of conventional diesel tugs. From the perspective of life-cycle benefit analysis, if the service life of a pure electric tug is 30 years, the cost of a conventional tug can be basically saved. The use of the pure electric tug will reduce the emission of about 900 tons of carbon oxides and 12 tons of sulfides per tug pp电子网站ry year, equivalent to the emission of more than 300 cars. The environmental benefits are huge.
